I was hesitant to spend the money on two of these hats, but I couldn't be more pleased with them. My kids wear these hats whenever we are in the sun for more than 15 minutes or so. They wear them hiking, at the pool, fishing, playing at the park, at the river, and just playing in the front yard. The foam in the front of the brim keeps the front of the hat standing out to provide perfect shade for their faces. The back fabric is not lined, so it lays easily across their necks and shoulders. The mesh panels keep them cool, and when the hats get wet they dry very quickly. With their hats and their rashguard swimsuits, I only have to put sunscreen on their hands and feet, and a swipe across their nose and cheeks, if we are going to be in the sun for a long time. They don't get sunburned when they wear their hats... ever. Between the hats and the swimsuits, I can't honestly remember the last time my kids got sunburned.The bright colors and large brims also make it easy to spot my kids in a group!My girls have been wearing these hats for the past two years. The fabric is extremely durable, despite how lightweight it is. The hats are both in excellent shape, and the kids show no signs of growing out of them anytime soon. The pull strap across the back makes these hats adjustable for a wide range of ages/sizes. I did put a snap on my younger daughters strap. She's old enough to unsnap it if she got tangled in something, and the velcro tab was not sufficient to keep her hat on.One warning - these hats can be rolled for packing, but DO NOT fold the brim where the foam is. You will crease the foam permanently. As long as you roll it, it will bounce back into shape easily.All in all, these are excellent hats. I recommend them to all my friends and acquaintences. This year, I am finally going to take the plunge and an adult hat for myself. Next year, we will get another one for my third child. My son does not really like to wear hats. He kept this one on the entire time at the beach (2 hours). He's 3.The adjustable band is fantastic for snugly fitting it to his forehead. The chin strap was a nice feature & since he loves Max & Ruby and the episode where Max wears a rain hat with a chin strap, he was open to having it fitted under his chin. I can see how other children might not like this so much - but the band will keep it on in a stiff breeze.The vented top was great - his head didn't get nearly as sweaty as I would have expected.The brim covered his entire face & the back covered all of the back of his neck & upper shoulders from the sun.It's very light weight, the darker underside definitely helped with reducing reflected light.5 day cruise & my fair fair fair son hardly looks like he's been in the sun at all. :)

This is a really good sun hat. It is easy to adjust the strap and the plastic hook and loop closure (doesn't get fuzzed up) is really easy to use even with a squirmy child. The elastic back makes for a good fit as long as the head's big enough to fill in the crown. The width of the brim is probably the best feature. It's wide enough to shade the whole face. The wide brim does limit what you can see but that's the nature of it.I have found sizing to be tricky with these hats. This infant hat was a little too big last summer when my daughter was around 6 months old. It probably would have fit her perfectly at a year but that's winter for us. She can still wear the hat at age 18 months but the brim isn't quite wide enough now to cover her whole face and often doesn't shade her eyes enough. (She tends to be slightly smaller than average in head circumference.)We also have the next size up of this hat but it is still too big. She mostly wears this one though she has a tendency to want to pull it off because the bottom of the crown falls over her eyes. I have to keep tugging the hat back to keep it out of her eyes but I prefer this one to the other because it does a better job (when it's in the right place) of shading her face. It will hopefully be perfect by next summer.I bought each member of our family one of these hats and I wear mine all summer long. It's comfortable even on the hottest days. The adjustable cord is easy to use and is comfortable to have around my neck when I take my hat off for a breather in the shade. They are well-made and don't suffer from water use. They also resist dirt like you wouldn't believe. These hats are in use on a baby and an active boy almost daily in the summer time and I have not needed to wash them yet after 2 summers. My 8-year-old son's brim has gotten squished, folded, flattened, etc. and it's a little misshapen but not much considering the abuse! The cord on his was ripped off by another child when he was playing at a public pool and I never took the time to sew it back on. I have since lost the cord but he still wears his hat when playing soccer or riding his scooter. He even will put it on underneath his bicycle helmet, folding up the brim on the outer edges to open up his visibility. The hat will come off if it's very windy outside but it continues to be the hat we choose for hot, sunny days and though my son prefers his baseball caps for the fashion factor, he's glad for the sun hat when he wears it.We all especially notice how great these hats are when we're on the water. It greatly reduces eye strain from water reflection and with sunglasses, we last several hours longer on the water and avoid red eyes and headaches.
